Health and Fitness For Life 2011

Could it be? Could this be the year that I actually follow through on Health and Fitness for Life?

This has been a program that mhm came up with back in Portland, and every year, a few of us would "commit" ourselves to Health and Fitness for Life 20XX. But unfortunately, life would get in the way.

Well, this year, I decided I needed to get it together. I love cooking so why do I spend money on mediocre restaurants in Ithaca. I always feel good after exercising, so why not make it a regular thing?

So far I've been pretty good about eating, though the trip to Montreal and Spring Break set me back a little. To my surprise, I ended up dropping a pound when I weighed myself after I got back to Ithaca. The downside, though, is that I got out of my routine and stopped doing regular exercise for a couple weeks. And, I also stopped watching what I ate as closely as I have been over the past 7 or 8 weeks before spring break. The result is that I've plateaued.

On Friday, I found this website learning how to run in 13 weeks. The weather is finally getting (relatively) nice here, so I don't want to spend as much time doing exercise indoors on the Wii Fit. And personally, I'm not thrilled about the cardio options on Wii Fit. Strength is great, but the aerobic stuff is not difficult for me at all.

Day one: 5 min stretch/warm up, (1 min run, 2 min walk) 12 times, 5 minute cool down/stretch.

This sounded pretty easy when I read it. and when I started, it was pretty easy. The minute goes by super quickly, and the walking 2 minutes seems like a really long time. But by the 12th repetition, I definitely felt like I had done exercise. I wasn't in pain or anything, but it felt more like I had done 30 min on the elliptical.

I think this program will be good because it's quite varied and you really work up gradually. Part of my problem before is that I'd try and run for as long as I could, and since it was never as long or as easy as it looks, I got discouraged. So, this program takes you slowly up to the point where you'll be able to run for 40 minutes.
