my first year of business school came and went. it was an interesting experience that has been very different from the small liberal arts undergraduate experience i had, some 7-10 years ago. but having said that, i learned so much in the last year and without the combination of reed and cornell, i'm sure i wouldn't be where i am now with a great internship at a fantastic firm in one of my favorite cities in the world. i'm one lucky lady!
after my brother's graduation, my family and i spent a few days in philadelphia. we ate at this amazing restaurant on rittenhouse square called rouge. it was really one of the best meals i've had in a long time. my brother had soft shell crab, my dad had this amazing pork chop, mom had roasted veggies and i had an apple, roquefort, walnut salad. we ordered this chilled melon soup to share, a grilled shrimp and quinoa appetizer and some truffle-parmesan fries. all absolutely amazing. unfortunately, it was so late and dark i couldn't really capture any pictures with my camera phone...
...but the delicious foods don't stop there. i was back in the heartland for a couple weeks, getting gram and ocie acclimated to life at their grandparents' house (they love it, by the way). my mom and dad make really great food. seriously. my mom made these yummy fish dumplings. it sounds a little weird, but they were so great. and i went to the restaurant many times and i just cannot believe how awesome a cook my dad is. my brother and i went to a couple restaurants in kc, and they were all kind of so-so, unfortunately with the exception of this taqueria we went to in kck and this other store that sells about 25 different flavors of popsicles. i had arroz--which was AWESOME!!
and finally, i've been out in the bay area for almost a week. my internship starts tomorrow. i'm a little nervous and i'll spend today cooking some of the yummy veggies i got from the farmers market and reviewing some of my notes from investment and portfolio management. but i just want to say that since i've gotten out here, i've had the freshest, yummiest food i've had in a while. here's a samping:
these are some fish tacos i had at the ferry terminal:
2/3rds of the way done with the tacos:
