i went out to oriental east in silver spring, md, with my good friend rebecca last weekend. the place wasn't all that crowded for dim sum, but we ended up taking a table for 10 and sharing it with two other parties. this was the first time i'd ever experienced this sort of communal eating, and i'm sorry i've never really done it before. it's actually quite pleasant, and i wish more restaurants would give you that option.
one of the parties was a middle-aged couple and their 4 or 5 year old child. the other party consisted of two adults and two children. rebecca was smart and claimed the seats closest to the path of the carts. very wise, but combined with my impaired judgement on what i can responsibly manage to eat, it might not have been the best decision of my life.
we ordered more than the other two parties combined.
